Journey House

Testimonial from a past resident... (2025)

"When I look back at where I started, I never could’ve imagined how far I’d come. I spent almost a month on the streets, homeless and unsure of what tomorrow would bring. But within a week of applying, you welcomed me into the program—not just into a safe place to stay, but into a supportive community made up of both staff and residents.

From the beginning, I felt seen and valued. I found a job, and through the program, I was introduced to a church that changed my life—a church that, even if I lost every memory, I know I’d still remember. They were there during some of my darkest times.

You even helped me land a federal work-study job at LIT—without an interview. That was unheard of in my world. But because of your support, I began to believe that maybe the impossible wasn’t so impossible after all.

Even when I messed up or said the wrong things, I was never shut out.
Though I sometimes acted irrationally in the moment, after the turmoil passed, all it took was a conversation with y’all to help me feel grounded again. Just having a friendly talk—whether it was about something serious or something silly—was a blessing. Your kindness didn’t just help me survive; it helped me live. If it weren’t for the compassion and grace, you showed me, I never would’ve made it to League City—and I never would’ve met my girlfriend, who’s been by my side for the past three months. It hasn’t always been easy, but every moment has been worth it. I can’t imagine being with anyone else.

Thank you—for everything.

Sincerely, JD"

Transitional Living Program

is a supervised independent living program that offers support and guidance to young men ages 18-24 who are transitioning from foster care or other out-of-home placements to living independently on their own. The program provides resources and assistance to help these young adults learn the necessary life skills to become self-sufficient, including budgeting, job skills, and household management. The youth receive ongoing support from trained case managers who help them connect with community resources, establish goals and plans, and monitor their progress. The program aims to empower the youth by helping them develop the skills and confidence to navigate the challenges of independent living, build stable and positive relationships, and live healthy and productive lives.

In order to be considered for this program, young men or their advocates must apply online or in person. As of November 1, 2023, this program is now available.
