A big THANK YOU to Lamar University, Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School, and United Way of Beaumont and North Jefferson County for sending out your hardworking volunteers, along with our awesome community helpers who stepped in to lend a hand.

*Hauled a huge pile of dead branches to the road

Rotary Has Heart! The 2/12 meeting of the Rotary Club of Beaumont was the annual ‘Rotary Has Heart’ program to emphasize the ‘Service Above Self’ mission of our international organization. Through the generosity of the Beaumont Rotary Foundation and a District 5910 grant, Rotarians and guests assembled 150 layette bags with supplies for expecting and new mothers on the island of Roatan near Honduras. This year, the ‘Rotary Has Heart’ committee was led by Deborah Healey Drago. In addition to the layette assembly line, we also assisted several non profit organizations; Gift of Life, Family Services of Southeast Texas, Boys Haven, and Triangle AIDS Network. The Crisis Center of Southeast Texas taught a class on self-love. The Learn 2 Thrive program at The Recovery Council of Southeast Texas worked with our residents on real life budgeting, which included an outing to Wal-Mart. A HUGE shout out to Lombardo's Bonded Tree Service, LLC, Kevin Reed at Reed Realty, and Andrea Brown at Monument Roofing Systems for helping us get this dead tree taken down. We had our ribbon cutting last week and Andrea couldn't make it, so she had a private tour the Friday before. We talked about church volunteers possibly being able to help us with our tree and Andrea took a picture of it. A week later we got a call from Kevin saying Lombardo is on the way! We are truly blessed to have such good friends in the community who are willing to call out favors and donate their time to help others. If this tree would have fallen on our office, it would've racked up countless expenses that we do not have. We are so proud and honored to live and operate in such a giving community and cannot thank yall enough!

All of our Steinhagen bathrooms have a fresh coat of paint, each bedroom in Callaghan has a full set of furniture, and Middleton looks completely different! A huge thank you to United Way of Beaumont and North Jefferson County for including us in your 6th Annual Day of Caring. CenterPoint Energy really came through for us today by helping us complete a few important projects on our cottages. Within 3 hours we were able to repaint the kitchen cabinets and a few accent walls in the bedrooms, move and set up beds from one cottage to another, and finish the baseboard trim in our conference room. We are extremely thankful for the ways our community continues to come through for us in such big ways. It was wonderful meeting new people today and getting our hands dirty. We are thrilled and honored to be one of the 64 nonprofit organizations in Southeast Texas to receive a grant award from Hancock Whitney Trust and Asset Management. We want to thank Hancock Whitney along with the B.A. & Elinor Steinhagen Benevolent Trust for the Harvest of Giving Award of $30,000! All funds from this grant go towards the operation of the Steinhagen Cottage, where our older boys reside!

Surprise Treat for the boys!!!
|
Earlier this evening we took some of our boys to Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream for a surprise treat. They were so excited! While they were picking and choosing their treat a mystery guy called staff over and asked if they were from Boys' Haven, when they confirmed the mystery guy asked the reason for the visit, staff replied they were treating the boys to a surprise for their good behavior, he congratulated the boys and then paid for their ice creams. The boys insisted I publicly thank this person, and staff thought his name was Phil. We truly want to thank you for helping us to show these boys that there are amazing people in the world.

Harvey
The Boys’ Haven team would like to let our community know that we are standing with everyone who has had to feel the devastating effects of the Harvey floods. Our campus is up and running and fortunately, things have gotten back to near normal for our boys. After being evacuated for the first 8 days of September to Champion Oaks in Jasper, our boys are back in school and back in their usual routine!
Our campus was fortunate enough to not have flood damage, but we did have some water damage through a few leaky roofs, ceilings, doors and windows. With the help of some of our staff and board members, and many of our friends and neighbors, we were able to do some initial clean up and removal of debris and other damaged and/or broken items. Like so many in our community, we will continue to depend on your prayers and support as we continue our mission to serve the boys in our care.
We want to say thank you to the Southeast Texas community the broad-based support we have had over the past 72 years! We are proud to say we are a part of this community!

Equestrian Therapy Summer Program
The Foundation for Southeast Texas exists to make a positive difference in the quality of life in the area by encouraging philanthropic gifts and by assisting donors in achieving their charitable goals through the professional management and considered and caring distribution of such gifts. The Foundation responds to continuously changing and emerging community needs by addressing the following areas of civic and social concerns: arts and culture, preservation, education and scholarships, health, social services, youth and elderly, economic development and civic affairs.
