The SETRPC’s Foster Grandparent Program presents ‘Family Fun Day’
“The South East Texas Foster Grandparent Program provides meaningful volunteer opportunities for income-eligible persons, age 55 or over, to establish supportive one-on-one mentoring relationships with youth in local juvenile probation, prison, hospitals, schools and child-care facilities, and Head-Start programs. The fostering of these relationships has assisted in answering the goals set forth by numerous agencies to break the cycle of drug abuse, crime, and other problems experienced by a growing sector of today’s youth. At the same time, the foster grandparents participate as vital members of society by sharing their wisdom, convictions, and experience.”
On July 19, 2014, the Boys’ Haven campus was overrun with joy as Grandparents from our Region’s local Foster Grandparent Program arrived to celebrate their annual ‘Family Fun Day’! The Foster Grandparent Program is one that is very dear to our hearts, as our beloved Grandpa Cole has been with Boys’ Haven for over 50 years and with the Foster Grandparent Program for 20, so we were beyond elated to see ALL of the Foster Grandparents here celebrating on our campus!!
‘Family Fun Day’ is an annual event where all of the Foster Grandparents in our region gather to celebrate with family, food & fun!! It’s a 4 hour in-service where everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to share, in which they never disappoint!! I’m sure it’s obvious from the photos below, that we all left this event happy, sleepy, and a few pounds heavier! Along with food and fabulous Grandparents, the [Fun Day] includes Face Painters, music, and various other events! This year, students from Lamar University arrived to partake in the event and to join in on an ongoing basketball game with our residents! As if this day wasn’t already chockfull of entertainment, Kappa Alpha Psi also joined in and provided the meat for everyone’s enjoyment!!

Thank you to the SETRPC and everyone with the ‘Foster Grandparent Program’ for helping us to continue in our mission of building a brighter tomorrow for the boys of today!
